Project Description
The Cali Inclusive Workforce Development initiative is an intensive ten-month project designed to advance educational and occupational skills for at-risk youth in the city of Cali, Colombia. Priority is given to youth from minority communities who are among the most marginalized groups in Colombia and suffer from challenges including exclusion, inequality, poverty, discrimination, and displacement.
Project Approach
Working with CDP del Cuero, a local partner, the project will equip 800 young adults to find employment in high-demand technical areas such as shoe manufacturing, metallurgy, welding, and auto mechanics. The project will provide a skills training program that incorporates theoretical training, practical application, working linkages, and life skills aimed at improving the livelihoods of Cali’s marginalized youth, especially those from Afro-Colombian and indigenous populations.
Impact and Accomplishments
The Cali Inclusive Workforce Development initiative will train 800 young adults in high-demand technical areas and place 80 percent or 640 trainees in formal jobs.
